Ever dreamt of designing your own home? This dream might be one step closer to reality with the new Help to Build equity loan scheme.
The average deposit needed for self-builds is currently about 25% of total land and building costs. Until now, this has excluded those with smaller budgets from self-building.
In response, the government has committed £150m of funding to Help to Build, which will provide loans of between 5% and 20% of costs to people building their own home, or up to 40% if building in London.
Applicants to the scheme must plan to live in the property as their primary home and have total build costs under £600,000 (£400,000 if the land is owned). If you’re eligible, it could be time to draw up some blueprints and roll up your sleeves!
